Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Cynthia Urban
Welcome to my webpage. My name is Cynthia Urban, I am the Forbes Middle School Fine Arts Department Chair and one of three visual art teachers at our school. This is my third year as an art teacher at Forbes, which is actually my "zoned" school. I am proud of living and working so close to my neighbors. Prior to serving my community at FMS, I taught at high school and college levels for many years. My heart is truly in middle school, where students experience rapid cognitive, social and emotional development. I especially enjoy being an art teacher because I witness student creativity first-hand. Being creative prepares our students for the future's growing demand for innovation. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build the youth for our future.”
I was born in Texas and raised in New York City. I attended Brooklyn Technical High School, a prestigious high school that specializes in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. While in high school, I developed a passion for architecture and design theory. I majored in studio art and minored in architecture at The City College of New York. I attended graduate school (landscape architecture) at Texas A&M University, where I met my husband Tim. While at A&M, I was a teaching assistant in Tuscany for the College of Architecture's Study Abroad Program. I have lived in Georgetown since 2001 and all three of my children attend school in Georgetown ISD.
While not in school, my favorite thing to do is travel. I also enjoy HGTV, camping, cooking and of course - making art!
