How do I know if I'm approved to volunteer at GISD?
Check your background check date. You are cleared to volunteer up to one year after your last background date. For example, if you were approved 09/01/2020, you are approved to volunteer in our schools until 09/01/2021. One week prior to your anniversary date of 09/01/2021, you will receive a reverification email where you will need to either Opt-in to continue to volunteer or Opt-out to remove yourself as a volunteer.
-
I received the reverification email from GISD. Does this mean I have to "opt-in" to continue to volunteer?
YES. The system will automatically run a new background re-screening once you click the Opt-In button, and you will be notified at this time of your background check status. If you choose to Opt-Out, this means that you will NOT be re-screened for another background check. You will receive this reverification prior to your one-year background check anniversary.
-
Can I complete the reverification for another family member?
NO. The volunteer must complete their own reverification by clicking on the Opt-in or Opt-out.
-
How do I check my background check date?
Log in to your profile, click the three white lines in the top left > click on Volunteer > Click on Background. The date will appear.
-
I logged in and edited my profile - does this mean my background check will be re-screened for the upcoming school year?
No. Your background check is performed once annually around the anniversary date when you first registered to volunteer. We encourage you to log in to the MVPS system any time you want to make updates to your profile including updating your email address or campuses where you wish to serve.
-
I want to apply to be a new volunteer - do I have to register as a volunteer to be in a GISD school?
Yes. Each and every volunteer must register in our MVPS System and complete a background check. Check our list of volunteer opportunities (which includes field trips, class speaker, event chaperone, and more) on our volunteer web page.
-
How do I know if I've been approved to volunteer in GISD Schools?
You can now check your own background check status in our MVPS System. You can do this by logging in to your existing profile, click on the three-line menu in the top left corner, click on Volunteer > Background > bottom of the Background Details page.
-
What does the background check status mean?
- Standard approved (highlighted in green) - this means you're approved to volunteer in our schools.
- Action pending (highlighted in brown) - this means additional information is still needed. Be sure to check your email, as this information will be shared with you via the email you provided. Please be sure to check your spam folder and make sure delivery from the domain from which the email was sent (ezcommunicator.com) is not being blocked.
- Review required (yellow) - this means HR will be reviewing the profile screening. This review process can take up to 72 business hours. If the result is still in 'Review Required' after the typical review time, please call our department of Human Resources at 512-943-5000.
Safety is the top priority of GISD. Thank you for your patience as we carefully review and screen each volunteer and mentor.
