My name is Hannah McCoy and I am the school counselor at McCoy Elementary School. The 2020 – 2021 school year is my 8th year in Georgetown ISD and my second year as a school counselor. I have taught third grade, resource, and special education at Pickett Elementary. I have also taught 5th grade at Frost Elementary and the past three summers at summer school.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Special Education from Sam Houston State University in 2013. After several years of teaching, I knew that I wanted to work in a role where I could support a wide variety of students and began my journey to becoming a school counselor. I graduated from Lamar University with my Master’s Degree in School Counseling in 2017. Since obtaining my Master’s Degree, I have attended several counseling related trainings at Region XIII and joined the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). My ultimate goal is to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the near future.
Here at McCoy Elementary, I will provide school-wide guidance lessons for all Kindergarten – 5th grade classes. These lessons are adapted from several resources, including the Core Essentials Program and the MindUP Curriculum. In order to meet the needs of students, I will also hold small group sessions, lunch bunches, and short term individual counseling sessions.
When I’m not at work, I love to work out and spend time with my boyfriend and our two rescue dogs, Charlie and Leo.
I look forward to working with you this year! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
