Selena Almaraz joins the Wagner team as a Special Education teacher. Ms Almaraz comes to us with 3 years of experience serving as a substitute and instructional aide. She previously served as an instructional aide at Wagner during the Spring of 2020. She holds a Bachelors degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. In Ms Almaraz's words, "The thing that excites me the most about working at Wagner is the supportive learning community found there, and that everyone is working towards the same goal of giving the best education to the students of Wagner". She is looking forward to learning and having interactions that give her a new perspective of the world.
Outside of teaching, Ms Almaraz enjoys taking her dog on walks around the neighborhood, reading books, and playing tennis. An interesting fact about her dog is he is named "Peluche" which means 'teddy bear' in Spanish.
Ms Almaraz shares that her mom immigrated to the US from Honduras in the 1990s and had Selena and her sister. Ms Almaraz admires her mother because she is a very resilient person who inspires Selena and her sister to be their best selves.
