Hammerlun Leadership Academy FAQ
-
Who is eligible to apply?
Any employee of Georgetown ISD with at least two years of work experience in the district may apply.
-
How do I know if this is for me?
Hammerlun Leadership Academy is open to any employee of Georgetown ISD that is seeking an opportunity to develop as a leader. If you take your own learning seriously and are willing to reflect, try new experiences, be open to feedback, set goals and connect with others interested in their own growth, then HLA is for you! This cohort focuses on the personal characteristics and habits of effective leaders in any role in any organization. It’s not preparation for any specific role, title, or position in GISD, rather it supports its participants in becoming better leaders in whatever area they may serve.
Check out the GISD Organizational Position on Leadership for insight into what we’ll be discussing and focusing on.

One event will include travel and will last more than one day, most likely during the summer

These events will be local, will last a couple of hours, and will occur outside of the workday.
-
-
-
How long is the committment?
11 months, from June through April
-
What is the cost?
There is no cost to participate in the Hammerlun Leadership Academy. All associated costs are covered by the memorial gift provided to the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation in Jerry Hammerlun’s name.
-
Does HLA accept applications from districts outside GISD?
No. This program is exclusively for the development of leaders within Georgetown ISD.
-
Is there a cap for each cohort?
To get the most out of each experience, cohort sizes will be small. We expect to select between 12 and 16 people to participate each year.
-
How is the program funded?
Following Jerry’s death, Huckabee, Inc. made a donation to the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation in Jerry’s memory, to be used in a way that honors him. From that, the Hammerlun Leadership Academy was born.
-
How does the Hammerlun Leadership Academy differ from other leadership programs in Georgetown ISD?
Georgetown ISD believes that developing leaders is vital to our success. The Hammerlun Leadership Academy is designed around personal development and not aligned to certain career paths like our our Assistant Principal (AP) Prep Academy.
