    David Canfield - Varsity Head Coach

    Coach Canfield attended Emanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA where he played basketball for two years.  He transferred and finished his college years at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX and received a Bachelor of Science in Business.  While at Howard Payne University, he played for two years as part of the winning TIAA Conference championship team.  Both years his team played in the NAIA National Tournament.  Coach Canfield was selected as Captain of the team during his senior season.  

    He started his coaching career as Graduate Assistant at Howard Payne University.  In 1999, he spent on year coaching at Nacogdoches High School.  He coached at Second Baptist School in Houston from 2000 - 2008, serving as head coach for six years.  It was during this time that the Second Patist team made it to the TAPPS 5A state tournament Final Four 3 times with one of those attempts culminating in the State championship game.  From 2009 - 2010, Coach Canfield spent two seasons coaching at Katy Taylor High School.  From 2011 - 2016, Coach Canfield served as the lead assistant at Lake Travis High School  He was honored in 2011 as the Assistant Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.  This is Coach Canfield’s third season as the Head coach of the Georgetown Eagles.  Coach Canfield is excited about this season and has this to say, “I want to start by thanking the parents for entrusting their boys with me through the course of the season.  We will work hard, play hard, but most importantly grow as young men.  I am looking forward to a great season as we expect our Georgetown young men to give everything they can on the court while playing for their teammates and fans.  We have some very smart and talented players who play hard until the final buzzer sounds.”  Eagle Fight Never Dies!

    Coach Canfield has been married for 22 years to his beautiful wife, Ashley.  In all of Ashley’s spare time, she runs a photography business and works for Imagine Scholarships. They have six boys:  Casey 21, Brayden 19, Kai 16, Tate 14, Jude 11 and Finn 7.  

     

    Peter Staackmann - JV Head Coach / First Varsity Assistant

    Coach Staackmann attended Concordia University at Austin where he played 4 years on the men’s basketball team.  He was a 4 year starter and team captain his senior year.  He majored in Secondary Education with a discipline in mathematics.  His last year at Concordia, he helped as a student assistant for the men’s basketball team.  After graduating in 2004, he was hired as the freshman basketball coach at Victoria Memorial HS.  The following year, he was moved to the JV and assisted with the varsity.  Inn 2010, Victoria Memorial split into two high schools, where Staackmann chose Victoria East.  He served as the JV and assistant varsity coach.  In 2015, he was promoted to the head basketball coach at Victoria East HS where he spent his last 3 years one of which his team made the Regional Quarterfinals.  Currently, this is Coach Staackmann’s third year at Georgetown.  Coach Staackmann and his wife, Stephanie, have two children:  Chase (9 year old boy) and Chloe (4 year old girl).  The family is happy to be in Georgetown and proud to call themselves an Eagle.

     

    Kyle Gandy - 9A Blue Head Coach / Varsity Assistant

    Coach Gandy is entering his 37th year of teaching and coaching in Texas High Schools.  He attended Louisiana Tech University from 1980 - 1985 and played football for the Bulldogs.  Coach Gandy earned his MEd from The University of North Texas in 1990.

    He started his coaching career at Highland Park High School in 1985 and has coached at San Angelo, Angleton, Baytown and Springtown prior to coming to Georgetown in 2005.  

    Coach Gandy has been married to Tamara for 38 years and she teaches math at Forbes Middle School.  Their son Ryan and Daughter in Law live in Virginia and their daughter Mackenzie and Son in Law Ryan reside in Dallas.  

     

    Brad Bresnehen - 9B White Head Coach / Varsity Assistant

    Coach Bres is starting his 22nd year of teaching and coaching.  He, his wife and two boys (Cole and Lane) moved down from Tulsa, Oklahoma 18 years ago.  Cole is a Theater Graduate from SMU (2022) and Lane will start the Fire Academy in fall of 2022 at A&M Rellis in College Station.

    Coach Bres teaches biology and also coaches linebackers.

     

    Chis Onwukaife - 9th assistant coach / Varsity Assistant

    Christopher Onwukaife was born and raised in Austin, TX where he attended and played basketball at LBJ High School. Chris was a First Team All-District and All-Region selection before receiving a scholarship to play at Prairie View A&M University. Chris would eventually give up his playing career and transfer to Texas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies, minoring in Business, Psychology and Political Science.

    After graduating, Chris began working in sales before his passion for helping others led him into teaching. Chris excelled in helping others achieve new heights and was awarded Teacher of The Year in his second year of teaching at Gateway Middle School in Killeen, TX. Chris has worked in a multitude of settings including with special needs kids and has learned many things along his journey including how important it is to connect with people.

    The same values and spirit for helping others achieve new goals in education is a part of the same passion that Chris brings into his first year of coaching. When Chris isn’t on the clock you can find him spending time with his son Alijah (science experiments are their favorite!) , or at the gym shooting a few hoops.
