This is a mid-level class for students who have had prior orchestra experience through classes or private lessons. Concert Orchestra students show that they can perform at a higher level but are focused on refinement of tone quality, intonation, rhythms and technique. These students continue to build new skills and abilities on their instruments including learning to tune instruments on their own, beginning vibrato, and advanced bowing techniques to play music at a higher level.
It is the expectation of the students in Intermediate Orchestra to practice 15 minutes or more per day, and to be able to sight read music in the key of D Major and G Major showing the appropriate technique and understanding of each key.
Students participate in a variety of required concerts (4-5) and trips throughout the school year. These students will also have the option to audition for Region Orchestra in September and October. This is not required, but does require learning additional music outside of school for the audition. If you make Region Orchestra, you will get to participate in a special clinic & concert with other orchestra students from across Texas and your conductor will be a featured clinician from a top Texas school. Only grade eligible students will be able to audition for Region Orchestra as it follows the state UIL eligibility policy.
