    Vocabulary Development: structural analysis of words (Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes), vocabulary from class novels, tone vocabulary, and connotative and denotative word meanings
    Grammar: capitalization, punctuation, parts of speech, subject/ verb agreement, pronoun referents, etc. (skills will be taught through mini-lessons and in the context of students' own writing)
    Persuasion Techniques: in advertising, speeches, and other forms of media
    Research: generate specific questions, look for information in reliable sources, organize relevant information, and properly document information using the Modern Language Association's format
