My Education & Teaching Background
Hi! My name is Dana McCarty and I am honored to be teaching 4th grade language arts and social studies this year at Carver Elementary. I began teaching in 2001 after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a specialization in Early Childhood Education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. My teaching experience includes 1st grade, Pre-K, 3rd grade, Kindergarten, and I served as the Title I Reading Interventionist for grades K-5. I completed my Master of Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University May, 2013. I have taught in Austin, Troy, and Belton, TX. This is my 6th year in Georgetown, and my 17th year in education.
I am very excited to be at Carver Elementary this year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, and concerns.
Fourth Grade Team at Carver Elementary
The Fourth Grade Team consists of seven dedicated and experienced teachers who plan lessons collaboratively and meet frequently to ensure that all students receive the best educational experiences possible. The fourth grade consists of three, two pod groups, and one self contained class which allows teachers to specialize in specific subject matter and deliver enhanced lessons. I am grouped in a "two pod" with Mrs. Barnes. I will be the language arts, reading, and social studies teacher, while Mrs. Barnes will teach math and science. My homeroom students will switch classrooms throughout the day to receive instruction from both teachers. I will be the primary contact for the students in my homeroom class, while Mrs. Barnes will be the primary contacts for students in her homeroom.
