With approval from the local school district, students enrolled in grades K-12 seeking acceleration or credit in a subject area in which they have not received prior instruction may earn credit by passing a Credit by Exam with a grade of 80% or above. Students in grades 6-12 who received prior instruction in a subject area but did not receive credit may earn credit by passing an exam (grade of 70% or above) that assesses the student's knowledge and skills in that subject area.

Credit by Exam is offered by Georgetown ISD for enrolled students in grades Kindergarten-12. GISD offers exams free of charge to students. The purpose of CBE testing is for acceleration (students wishing to test out of a grade or course without having prior instruction), verification (verifying credit from homeschool or non-accredited private/public school), or recovery of credit for a course in which the student has had prior instruction.

GISD utilizes the following vendors for CBE testing in grades 1-12.

  • UT High School provides all available acceleration and credit recovery exams except LOTE (Languages Other Than English).
  • AVANT provides all LOTE(Language Other Than English) acceleration exams for grades 6-12.
  • College Board AP Exams (with no prior instruction) and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Exams
