Who takes the PSAT test?
Georgetown ISD is pleased to offer PSAT testing to all GISD students in 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. Students in 8th and 9th grade take the PSAT 8/9. Students in 10th and 11th grade take the PSAT NMSQT.
High school students are automatically registered for the test. 8th-grade students must opt-in to participate.
What is the PSAT test?The PSAT tests are part of the College Board group of assessments, much like SAT. The test has two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math. Test results can be used by families to inform students' pathways in high school and do not contribute to a student’s GPA or class rank.
When is the PSAT Test offered?
The test will be administered during the school day at all high school campuses on Wednesday, October 22nd and all middle school campuses on Wednesday, October 29th. Providing the test at our campuses removes the barriers of the cost of the test and transportation to a testing site so that all students can benefit.
Campus Testing Coordinators will be reaching out to families directly with more information. Any 8th grader who opts in must be registered with their campus by August 29, 2025.
Why should my student take the PSAT test?
These tests prepare students to take the SAT, a tool that many colleges and universities value as a part of their admissions process. 10th and 11th graders take the PSAT/NMSQT, which helps students qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program. PSAT scores may also help students see which AP courses they’re likely to do well in that are offered in GISD.Are Non-GISD students eligible to take the test?
Yes, PSAT testing is available to homeschooled students who are zoned to Georgetown ISD at no cost to the student. Please contact the campus the student would attend and ask to speak with the Campus Testing Coordinator for more information.
