Frequently Asked Questions

Students are eligible for 18+ services if they meet the following requirements:

• Have a need to continue to work on IEP transition goals
• Have received modified content in one or more courses while in high school
• Have met all state graduation course credit requirements
• Have met all state assessment requirements for graduation
• Have not reached the age of 22 by September 1 of the academic year.

No, these services are optional for students who meet the requirements. The decision to enroll and receive 18+ services should be determined through the ARD Committee.

No. Students can graduate from 18+ services as soon as they are ready. Readiness is individually based. Some examples include:

• Student has gained employment
• Student decides to attend a college program for adults with disabilities
• Student has met all IEP goals
• Student and family decide they no longer want to attend

Yes. Bridges tours are available every month starting in November from 4:30-5:30 pm on the 1st Thursday of the month. Please RSVP by emailing guthriee@georgetownisd.org.

Bridges Enterprises include the Bridges Boutique, the Bridges Brew, and the Bridges Culinary. These enterprises are campus vocational sites for students to gain real-world experience. Students create, sell, and serve community customers.

Absolutely, yes! Our students can be found learning vocational and volunteer skills all around Georgetown! We have around 20 "Community Partners". These partners represent a wide variety of industries (restaurant, grocery, custodial, and retail). They also volunteer with several non-profit organization, such as Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, and All Things Wild.

Instruction at Bridges addresses the four life domains of adulthood.

• Social/Rec/Leisure

This is addressed through the following classes at Bridges:

• Community Internship
• Community Volunteering
• Community Social Skills
• Bridges Culinary Food Prep
• Daily Living Skills
• Adult Living Skills

Neither Bridges nor 18+ students will receive numerical grades or curriculum-based instruction as they have already met graduation requirements. Students will receive instruction related to their specific IEP goals and IEP progress reports will outline student growth and progress towards mastery.  

Both Bridges and 18+ students will be assigned a course and a teacher in Skyward. This assures accurate attendance reporting to the state. Due to Skyward requirements, all students will receive a pass/fail grade.

Note: Bridges is not a "campus" per TEA and all students must be connected with a campus for reporting purposes. All Bridges students are still listed in Skyward with their home campus (either GHS or EVHS) for attendance and grades.

Bridges is a transition to adulthood program. Therefore, the hours a student attends are individualized based on IEP goals and student need. A full day of Bridges services is 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Some students attend from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm or 11:30 am - 2:00 pm. Students can also attend Monday through Friday or specific days of the week.
