Overview
Preparing Every Student
for a Global Future
In GISD, College, Career, and Military Readiness starts early. We empower students to discover their strengths and build their own path to success.
Elementary School
Counselors begin introducing various career possibilities, focusing on an exploration of the many different careers within our community.
Middle School
Students explore high school credit courses and begin "four-year planning" in eighth grade to create their Personal Graduation Plans (PGPs).
High School
CCMR Specialists, Academic Advisors, and School Counselors lead students in post-secondary pursuits, refining graduation plans as interests evolve.
Discovering Your Path
College, Career, and Military Readiness in GISD is a powerful collaborative effort. Our CCMR Specialists work hand-in-hand with the CTE, Advanced Academics, Teaching & Learning, and School Counseling departments.
As a result of this deep collaboration, students have access to rigorous courses specifically designed to prepare them for college, career, and military pursuits.
Beyond the coursework, we ensure every student has access to the human guidance needed to navigate and access their chosen path with confidence.
Our Collaborative Support Ecosystem
Career & Technical Education (CTE)
CTE provides Programs of Study for real-world learning, including the JROTC program. The department also coordinates ASVAB testing to help students identify career aptitudes.
Academic Advisors
The bridge from 8th grade to high school. Advisors support 8th-grade course selection and work individually with 9th graders to develop a 4-year Personal Graduation Plan (PGP).
School Counselors
Supporting the whole student through personal and social needs while ensuring they meet state academic requirements and advising on the best courses for their unique needs.
Advanced Academics & Teaching and Learning
Collaborating to provide college-credit pathways like Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit, and UT OnRamps courses.
CCMR Specialists
Our CCMR Specialists serve as the final bridge to what comes next. As part of their daily role, they analyze student data and monitor individual progress to ensure no student falls through the cracks.
By coordinating College Fairs and managing Scholarship opportunities, they work toward the goal that every GISD student reaches the Texas CCMR Benchmark.
Ultimately, our mission is to ensure every student walks across the graduation stage with a concrete, actionable plan for their future.
