Digital Citizenship & Internet Safety Lessons for Students
Georgetown ISD feels strongly that all students should be prepared to be good citizens in digital environments, just as they are expected to be good citizens in the physical world. Students will receive instruction on the safe and proper way to use technology and on digital citizenship and internet safety topics including media balance & well-being; privacy & security; digital footprint & identity; relationships & communication; cyberbullying, digital drama, & hate speech; and news & media literacy. In accordance with the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires schools to educate students about appropriate online behavior. This includes education on interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms and on cyberbullying awareness and response.
Georgetown ISD's digital citizenship and internet safety lessons for students (linked below) were published in fall 2014. As of August 2019, Georgetown ISD is revising these lessons and an updated version will be forthcoming.
