Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Cynthia Urban
Welcome to my webpage! This is my fifth year as an art teacher at Forbes. FMS is actually my "zoned" school and it warms my heart to live and work amongst my neighbors. Prior to FMS, I was a high school art teacher and college instructor. However, my heart compels me to serve the needs of middle schoolers. It's a three-year period of time when students experience extremely rapid cognitive, social and emotional development. I especially enjoy witnessing student creativity first-hand. Being creative prepares our students for the future's growing demand for innovation. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build the youth for our future.”
I was born in Texas and raised in New York City. I attended Brooklyn Technical High School, a prestigious high school that specializes in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. While in high school, I developed a passion for architecture and design theory. I majored in studio art and minored in architecture at The City College of New York. I attended graduate school (landscape architecture) at Texas A&M University, where I met my husband Tim. While at A&M, I was a teaching assistant in Tuscany for the College of Architecture's Study Abroad Program. I have lived in Georgetown since 2001 and all three of my children attend school in Georgetown ISD.
While not in school, my favorite thing to do is work outdoors; especially beekeeping and gardening. I also enjoy camping, cooking and of course - making art!
