Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jenn Lugo

Hello and welcome to the world of Math Intervention! My name is Jenn Lugo and I am thrilled to be the Math Coach at Frost Elementary. With many years of experience teaching math to students in various grade levels, I'm passionate about providing math support to both teachers and scholars. You could say I'm a little bit of a #MathNerd!

I am originally from San Antonio, TX but after working in the corporate world for a while, I realized that my passion for kids was much greater…and worth investing in. I graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and thought I had my whole future figured out. I was going to move back to San Antonio where I could get my weekly dose of authentic Mexican food and Bill Miller’s sweet tea, get a 3rd grade teaching position in a “perfect world” setting (like they taught us in college), and live happily ever after with all my laminate and cute craft ideas! Well, God had different plans for my life… The San Antonio job never came, the authentic Mexican food was non-existent, I learned to live without the sweet tea, and I finally decided to put my roots down in Austin. Fast forward almost 9 years and my preplanned San Antonio life just sounds plum silly! I met my amazing husband, rescued some of the sweetest fur babies to ever exist, took on a healthier lifestyle (aka no more weekly authentic Mexican food addictions), and gained some truly amazing friends who are more like family. Needless to say, my #AustinAreaAdventures totally outweigh the standard I was willing to settle for. I’ve learned to be flexible, adjust, and have faith. I am continuing to grow each year as an educator, professional, and a person who is a good role model for others. I am currently working on a Master degree in Education with an emphasis in Professional School Counseling. My short-term goals are to transition from math intervention to social/emotional intervention within the next few years. Long-term I will be working toward obtaining a Licensed Professional Counseling certification where I will have opportunity to work in the private sector or alongside school districts to provide therapy for children who are in need. However, in the meantime, it is my pleasure to be here at Frost. #FrostStrong!

A few fun facts about me:

I love pizza! Like, I do not believe there is such a thing as eating “too much” pizza. My favorite colors are purple, teal, navy blue, and leather (is that a thing?). Fashion is not my forte and while I often get mistaken as a high school senior, I’ve got quite a few grey hairs and wrinkles to prove I’ve got a little experience on this earth. The 3 things most people notice about me first is I love Jesus, I love my husband, and I love animals! I have a genuine fear of normal things like heights, sharks, snakes, scorpions, and choking on my pizza. I tend to keep Starbucks in business during the winter months (oh, who am I kidding, I keep them in business year round). I willingly participate in kickboxing classes 3-4 times a week and practice my napping skills shortly after I get home from each session. (Habit # 7: Balance feels best) My husband and I enjoy cycling, hiking, camping, and taking adventures together. We have a Maltipoo named Gracie who is convinced that she is a human child and snuggles in the bed with us each night as such. We also have 2 cats, Boco and Maddie, who require more attention than any other cat I’ve known in my life. I thought cats were supposed to be low maintenance?!? Some things I’ve never done are: broken a bone, eaten oysters, been to New York, watched a dog movie without crying, or stayed in the same classroom for more than 1 year. Aside from being a #mathnerd, I have some pretty stellar jump rope skills, I can wiggle my ears, I love reading, cooking new recipes, and writing for fun. I love anchors, nautical themed rooms, and I spend a little too much time (and money) at Home Depot buying wood for all my craft projects. Overall, I consider myself to be fun, honest, compassionate, and a little obsessive about having things in perfect order.

I look forward to a wonderful year together! Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
