Tim Saunders - Mathematics
About Mr. Saunders
I was born in Washington, DC and I grew up in Temple Hills, a small town in Maryland. I went to Benjamin Stoddard Junior High School and Potomac Senior High School. After graduating from New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering, I worked at IBM in the Hudson Valley, NY and in Austin, TX. During my IBM career, I worked on components of main frame computers, PowerPC, and Power microprocessors. Familiar projects included the Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo GameCube, and Xbox One. In recent years, I managed a team of 25-30 engineers working on the Power processor, famous for being the brains of Watson, the super computer that won Jeopardy in 2011. More recently, projects included the processors that drive two of the three fastest supercomputers in the world.
I received my Masters in Teaching, Mathematics Grades 5-9, from Western Governors University in 2019. I had the good fortune to be assigned to Tippit Middle School for student teaching, and subsequently I have found my dream job and home as a teacher right here at Tippit. I live in Georgetown with my son, Dustin, my daughter, Amanda, and my two dogs, Levi and Bailey. My oldest son, Brian, is a Captain in the USAF, stationed in Ft. Meade, MD. Dustin is completing his Master's in Public Accounting at UT. Amanda is in her 2nd year of Law School at Baylor University.
During my career at IBM, I came to believe that our children seem to be missing something in their Math education that would drive them to pursue the highly technical careers that require applied mathematics. I feel that Middle School is the perfect place to reach kids and position them to enjoy math and its applications. I am excited to be here at Tippit to share my passion for math, engineering and technology with the children in our community with the objective to inspire them to achieve great things in the future.
