Attendance Zones

The current proposal reflects zoning recommendations for Wolf Ranch Elementary School only. 

Jessie Daniel Ames Elementary, the district’s 12th elementary school, and Middle School No. 5 are scheduled to open in 2027. The district will work to establish attendance zones for those campuses during the 2026-2027 school year. 

• Draft attendance zones that support ongoing financial health and academic achievement for the next 10 years;
• Minimize future attendance zone changes for the same students;
• Allow us to best serve the needs of our students and families; and
• Help us be great stewards of district resources.

• Ensure opportunities for community feedback
• Include GISD departments and campuses in the process
• Recommend attendance zones that help balance student demographics
• Prioritize plans for student programs, transportation and safety
• Minimize the use of portables to the extent possible
• Be transparent with plans for future zoning, facilities and school needs

No. A student’s high school zone is determined by their address, not a feeder pattern.

It depends. New attendance zones must be created when new schools are opened, which is the catalyst for rezoning now. Two new schools will open for the 2026-2027 school year.  Current proposals give capacity to elementary and middle schools for the next 5 years. 

In some cases, yes, though the growth of the district doesn’t always support that, since some campuses are filling up faster than others.

Yes. A traffic light is being installed at Highway 29 and Parkside Parkway. Upon installation, it will make turning left easier, allowing for safer travel to the northwest quadrant of the district.
