Rezoning Proposals for 2024-25
The board approved new attendance zones at the January board meeting for the new San Gabriel Elementary School, as well as zone adjustments for the district’s elementary and middle schools, effective with the 2024-25 school year. These zoning adjustments help the district maintain quality education experiences for students while minimizing future rezoning impacts on families until the district can construct new facilities to accommodate for continued growth.
Summary of the changes:
- Elementary proposal No. 9 approved.
- New attendance zone created for San Gabriel Elementary School.
- Adjustments help alleviate overcrowding until a new elementary campus can be built.
- Zone adjustments to all elementary campuses, except McCoy.
- Middle school proposal No. 5 approved.
- Zone adjustments to all middle school campuses.
- High school zones remain unchanged at this time.

Rezoning for 2024-25 School Year
ABOUT THE PROCESS:
Two new campuses will open for the 2024-25 school year and seven campuses are at or nearing capacity as Georgetown remains the fastest-growing city in the nation. After reviewing the latest demographers' reports, a committee was formed, composed of district leaders, parents, and principals at impacted campuses, charged with reviewing options and recommending attendance zones that consider student demographics and geography while allowing for minimal disruption to student cohorts over time.
The rezoning process will create attendance zones for San Gabriel Elementary School, located in Santa Rita Ranch, and the new Benold Middle School, located in Parmer Ranch, both of which are under construction now and planned for a late summer 2024 opening. Additionally, some current zones are being recommended for an adjustment, and those adjustments may impact families currently attending: Wolf Ranch Elementary, Williams Elementary, Mitchell Elementary, Cooper Elementary, Forbes Middle, Tippit Middle and Wagner Middle School. Zoning for high school campuses remains unchanged in this proposal.
ATTENDANCE ZONING PRIORITIES
-
Create attendance zones for San Gabriel Elementary and Benold Middle School;
-
Mitigate capacity issues at Wolf Ranch Elementary, Williams Elementary, Mitchell Elementary, Cooper Elementary, Tippit Middle and Wagner Middle Schools;
-
Account for future student growth and future schools that will be needed; and
-
Optimize student capacity at our existing school facilities.
PARAMETERS
-
To the extent possible, rezone in a manner that allows student cohorts to not change schools too frequently during their elementary and middle school careers. (This will become more challenging as we grow.)
-
Prioritize the most strategic plans for student programs, transportation and safety.
-
Minimize the use of portables to the extent possible, but recognize that temporary facilities support the fewest rezoning scenarios.
-
Ensure opportunities for community feedback.
-
Include GISD departments and campuses in the process.
-
Recommend attendance zones that account for student demographics and needs.
CONSIDERATIONS
-
We are actively working on all the considerations for Dual Language student enrollment.
-
We know that attendance zoning as well as future bond projects have implications for program placement decisions.
TRANSFER REQUESTS
-
Rising 5th and 8th graders can choose to remain where they are and so can their siblings for one year. They must provide their own transportation.
-
Other transfer requests are subject to denial if based on district rezoning.
See https://www.georgetownisd.org/domain/1293 for more information on requesting student transfers.
