In this week’s eNews: 

Holiday Break Starts Dec. 21; Early Release Tomorrow

Friday, Dec. 20 marks the end of the fall semester. Students will be dismissed according to our early release schedule, which you can find on our website at www.georgetownisd.org/about-gisd/about-us/school-hours

Georgetown ISD will be closed through January 3. Staff return on Monday, January 6 and students return on Tuesday, January 7. Have a safe and restful holiday!

Trustees Approve 2025-2026 Academic Calendar

The board approved the 2025-2026 academic year calendar during the December board meeting. This follows a recommendation from the District Performance Council (DPC) and reflects survey feedback from parents, staff and community members. Highlights include:

  • August 14 start day for students

  • Fewer professional learning days in August for staff; Teachers contracts begin August 6

  • Fall semester ends before the winter break

  • Spring semester ends before Memorial Day

  • It is most similar to the current 2024-2025 calendar

Volunteer Nominations Accepted for new Long-Range Planning Committee through Jan. 5

Georgetown ISD is launching a new Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC) that will serve in an advisory role to district leaders as they plan for the future. With a commitment to alignment to the GISD Vision, Mission, Beliefs and Strategic Blueprint, the LRPC will prioritize examining issues related to: the challenges of growth, fiscal responsibility, optimization of facilities, and providing experiences to students that best prepare them for their future.

Any GISD parent, staff member, or community member who is interested in participating as a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee should apply here by Sunday, January 5, 2025.
 

Williams and Village Student Arts on Display through Friday at Hammerlun

View student artwork from Williams and Village elementary schools at the Hammerlun Center for Leadership and Learning now through December 20. The building is open from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm daily. The building will also be open until 8 pm on Monday, Dec. 16.

From the Georgetown Rec Center: Hyped for the Holidays Teen Party Tomorrow

Georgetown Parks and Recreation will host its annual Hype for the Holidays Teen Party for teenagers ages 12-15 on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Georgetown Recreation Center. 

The party is from 1:15 - 4:30pm and will include pizza, snacks, video games, music, door prizes, and more.

The event is free for recreation center members and $6 for nonmembers.

From the Rotary Club of Sun City: Breakfast with Santa returns This Saturday

The 24th annual Breakfast with Santa event, hosted by The Rotary Club of Sun City, is returning to the Community Center in San Gabriel Park on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Georgetown firefighters will be making pancakes and sausage served with juice and coffee. The event runs from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

At the event, children can visit with firefighters and have a free picture taken with Santa.

Tickets are $6 per person and can be purchased at the door on the day of the event or in advance from any club member or at the Public Safety Operations and Training Center, 3500 D.B. Wood Road. Children aged 12 and younger are free with a paid adult. For more information, see the flyer on our website. 


Breakfast with Santa is sponsored by The Rotary Club - Sun City in partnership with the Georgetown Fire Department and Georgetown ISD. Proceeds from the event support families in Georgetown ISD.

From the Georgetown Project: MLK Day of Youth Service Jan. 20

Calling all high schoolers! Join The Georgetown Project and Afterschool Alliance Partners for a Youth Service Day honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Morning snacks and lunch will be provided. Students will earn a certificate for three hours of service.

You must provide your own transportation. Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate if you are able.

From A+Federal Credit Union: Scholarships Available


A+FCU is awarding sixty $2,000 scholarships to students who are or become A+FCU members or are the child of a current member. Eligible applicants must also attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university and be: Graduating high school seniors OR College students pursuing an education degree who have been admitted to the College of Education and have a minimum of 60 collegiate hours OR Teachers pursuing a graduate degree.

The 2024 A+FCU Scholarship Application is open through February 7, 2025.
