State-mandated Changes to Medication Administration Policy - Effective August 2024

In August 2024, the Georgetown ISD School Board is expected to approve updates to Board Policy FFAC (Local) supporting the Health Services Department alignment with best practices according to the Nursing Practice Act and the Texas Board of Nursing state, “Nurses do not take original orders from patients, including their parents or other responsible persons, for the administration of medications in Texas.”

Administration of OVER-THE-COUNTER medications during the school day REQUIRES a medical provider AND parent/guardian signature. This includes but is not limited to: Acetaminophen, oral or topical allergy medication, insect bite or burn gel.

School Supply Donations Needed - Learn How to Give

The Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association is the district's partner in providing backpacks and school supplies to families each August. Any GISD family needing assistance can take advantage of this free event. However, it takes a village to make this happen. There are two ways you can donate:

  1. Purchase and drop off new backpacks and/or school supplies at the Carver Center for Families, 1200 W 17th St, Georgetown, any weekday between 9 am and 5 pm. Donations collected will be used to stuff backpacks to be handed out at an event on August 3. To view a list of requested supplies by GISD campuses, visit our school supply lists on our website: https://www.georgetownisd.org/Page/23913

  2. Make a financial contribution to Georgetown ISD. Cash donations are used to fund school supply needs throughout the school year and for summer school. Contact the communications and community engagement team to learn more at communityrelations@georgetownisd.org or by calling 512-943-1890.

Notice of Increased Facility Rental Fees Effective August 1, 2024

Facility rental fees for outside organizations will increase along with other changes for the upcoming school year, effective August 1, 2024.

This decision follows a district review of facility usage and operating costs and is designed to cover increases in the district’s utility costs, insurance premiums, and staffing for facility rentals.

Georgetown ISD remains one of the most competitive districts for facility rentals.  For more information, we encourage you to review the updated Facility Rental Handbook on our website.

For more information, please visit our website at or speak with your student’s counselor.

The GISD SHAC assists the school district by strengthening the connection between health and learning.  At the end of each school year, the SHAC has the opportunity to advise the board on health topics related to student physical/medical health, nutrition, and mental health.  When needed, the SHAC also advises the board on curriculum on specific topics involving student well-being.

Please visit our website to learn more about SHAC. You can apply to volunteer here. for more information and the opportunity to apply here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12nKA2-3-c01TWmS3BggrEgIcx8VRETnx90v-JhvBel4/prefill
