In this week’s eNews:

Attendance Matters - Start the Year off Right

We know that kids learn best when they are present and engaged in school. And furthermore, it’s the law. Texas Education Code states that parents have an obligation to ensure that their children ages 6-18 are enrolled in and attending school.

We work closely with parents to ensure students have what they need to be present and learn and encourage you to let us know if you or your family are facing hardships that may prevent your student from attending school. We’re here to help.  More information is available on our website including these Fast Facts.

Stay Connected via ParentSquare

By now, families should be receiving district communications via our new platform, ParentSquare, a new mass communication tool designed to increase engagement among stakeholders, including GISD families.

To help ensure that we can communicate with you in a timely manner, we're asking all parents and staff to check their communication settings in Skyward. Check to be sure we have up-to-date contact information for:

  • parents and guardians (email and phone numbers)

  • emergency contacts (email and phone numbers)

  • the language spoken in your home. The new system will translate and deliver messages in the language of your choice and allow for 2-way communication.

If updates are needed, you can make that request directly in Skyward. Your information syncs regularly with ParentSquare. Parents can log in to Skyward Family Access to update information: www.georgetownisd.org/familyaccess

While you’re there, check your “Primary Phone Number”. In order to receive ParentSquare communications via text message, enter your mobile number as your primary number.

For additional information and FAQs, visit our website.

Student Attendance Notices are Now Being Sent via ParentSquare

Starting on August 22, parents will receive auto-generated attendance notices via ParentSquare AND can send notes back to their child’s campus via ParentSquare. Look for the “Send Note to School” button to connect with the attendance clerk. See this flyer for more information.

Support GHS Football’s Peanut Butter Bowl - How to Donate

GHS football is participating in the Peanut Butter Bowl for the 4th year in a row, a fundraising event benefiting the Caring Place. All of the peanut butter will be donated to the local food shelter to help families in our area that are in need of assistance.

How can you support? Bring peanut butter to your school's collection bin or go online to donate at $2/jar at www.peanutbutterbowl.com

See this flyer for more information about GHS’ Peanut Butter Bowl.

Board Adopts 2024 Tax Rate

The GISD Board of Trustees adopted the 2024 tax rate during Monday’s meeting. The new rate of $1.0544 reflects an increase of $0.0077 to help fund 2024 Bond projects approved by voters in May. To learn more and to view a history of tax rates in GISD, visit www.georgetownisd.org/about-gisd/financial-transparency/tax-rates.

GISD Goes Gold in September for Childhood Cancer Awareness

GISD will "Go Gold" this September to raise awareness about childhood cancer and support families in our GISD community who have a student facing a life-changing cancer diagnosis.

To join the cause and show support, consider purchasing a "GISD Goes Gold" t-shirt. 100% of proceeds directly benefit families. Order shirts at https://georgetowngoesgold.itemorder.com/shop/sale/.

More information will be shared soon on GISD events where wearing your t-shirt earns you free admission and brings together our community around this cause.

One Town. One District, One Cause: Gold.

You can find more details on events and how you can support this effort on the nonprofit's website.

Future Ready Fair - September 24

The Future Readiness Fair for all GISD high school students will take place on September 24 at East View High School from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and we are inviting local military and college recruiters as well as local businesses to participate.

At the Future Readiness Fair, students are provided the opportunity to explore and connect with college admissions representatives, business organizations, public service officers, and military recruiters. This in-person event gives high school students the chance to interact one-on-one with college, career, and military representatives and to envision postsecondary success in many forms.

Please RSVP by August 28 using the form below.
