Sora - Audiobooks and eBooks for Middle School & High School Students
We are excited to introduce Georgetown ISD’s newest reading platform, Sora! Sora is an app or website where you can access thousands of popular audio and ebooks. These items were purchased by the GISD librarians based on the most popular checkouts at each secondary school. Using Sora, you can earn badges, bookmark your spots, make notes, and define words as you read.
Middle school and high school students can get to Sora through ClassLink or by downloading the Sora app (on Apple or Android devices) and signing in with their GISD login information. Important note: When prompted, search for Georgetown ISD, not your school. Students can check out ebooks and audiobooks for two weeks, and put holds on two more items.
Inside the Sora app, you can sync your public library account to access even more free books! Need to create a Georgetown Public Library account? Call (512) 930-3551 or stop by their building!
From Our Community Partners:
From the City: Masks now required in public in Georgetown and across the State of Texas
Everyone in Georgetown, age 10 and older, is now required to wear a face covering while in public. Additionally, outdoor gatherings are limited to no more than 10 people at a time. The Georgetown Mayor issued the new order July 3 to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Georgetown and protect residents, visitors, employees, and businesses. The orders reflect additional restrictions authorized by Gov. Greg Abbott on July 2 which include a mask order for all of Texas.
The orders specify some exemptions, including in places of worship and when wearing one poses a greater threat to health and safety for the individual and when consuming food or drink. For more information on the mask order, visit the City of Georgetown website.
From Williamson County: Free COVID-19 Testing July 6-10
The Williamson County Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the Texas Military Department, will be hosting free COVID-19 testing.
The next opportunity for testing will be occur from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following location:
- July 9 & 10 at Main Street Intermediate School, located at 3101 N Main St #105, Taylor, TX 76574
Sites are walk-up sites and will not require an appointment prior to being tested. People interested in getting tested will be asked to park and line up for their turn. It is important to note that due to demand there may be long wait times. Residents are urged to bring a water bottle and a form of shade to cover from the sun if necessary. People do not need to have symptoms in order to be tested.
“Demand for COVID-19 testing is increasing, so Williamson County is determined to make COVID-19 testing more accessible, especially in areas of the County where available testing sites are farther away,” said County Judge Bill Gravell.
The County’s Office of Emergency Management coordinated with elected officials, local police departments, Emergency Services Districts, and the Independent School Districts in each area to arrange for the mobile testing locations.
COVID-19 tests at these locations are available for all Texans, whether they are Williamson County residents or not. For more information please visit www.wilco.org.
