From our Community Partners:
From the City of Georgetown: Last day for GoGeo fixed-route services is today
Today is the last day for the GoGeo fixed-route bus service in Georgetown. Paratransit services will continue uninterrupted.
Curb-to-curb paratransit services are available to qualified Georgetown residents with disabilities. Eligibility and screening for paratransit services is provided through a paper application by the Capital Area Rural Transportation System. The paratransit bus runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, requires 24 hours’ notice, and costs $2 per trip. Learn more and schedule a paratransit ride here or call 512-478-RIDE (7433).
If you have questions, comments, or concerns about this change to our services, please contact Will Parrish, City of Georgetown transportation planning coordinator, at will.parrish@georgetown.org or 512-930-6597. Learn more about the upcoming service change on the City’s website
From the City of Georgetown: POPPtoberFest starts tomorrow!
POPPtoberFest, this year’s rescheduled Red Poppy Festival, kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and lasts through 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. We’re excited about the music lineup and other event highlights for the weekend:
- Headlining 9:30 p.m. on Saturday: Dale Watson
- Also performing Saturday: Two Tons of Steel at 8:15 p.m. and Brave Combo at 6 p.m.
- Dysfunkshun Junkshun will take the stage at 7 p.m. Friday.
- The Peterson Brothers Band will perform at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
POPPtoberFest also features a car show, kids’ area, pet parade, and more!
Traffic in and around the Square will be heavy and detoured throughout that weekend. The City is offering a variety of options for visitors to get to the festival, including free parking lots and a shuttle on Saturday.
Georgetown may feel like a small town, but this is going to be a big party. Folks need to plan to arrive early, be patient, and be prepared to be amongst hundreds of people, especially on Saturday night.
Please visit the event website for more detail about road closures, parking, Saturday’s shuttle, and information about COVID-19 safety measures: POPPtoberfest.com
From the City of Georgetown: FY2022 City budget is a-go!
City staff and Council used your feedback throughout the year to propose and ultimately adopt the budget for the next fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1, 2021. Major themes of the adopted budget are investing in transportation and utility infrastructure, public safety, and customer services, as well as providing the staffing, equipment, and software needed to respond to record-setting growth and development. The adopted budget totals $483 million and decreases the City’s property tax rate by 1.7 cents (from 41.8 cents per $100 valuation to 40.1 cents).
You can read more about the adopted budget on our website: finance.georgetown.org. The adopted budget didn’t change substantially from the proposed budget. The proposed budget documents are available on the webpage.
