Cosmetology Lab in Georgetown ISD named for SportClips founder during Monday’s board meeting
The Georgetown ISD board of trustees approved an action item to name the district’s new cosmetology lab in honor of SportClips founder Gordon Logan and his family on Sept. 16.
The lab will serve high school students in GISD who have an interest in pursuing a career in cosmetology and expands on the district’s College, Career and Military Readiness goals.
“We are committed to preparing students for their future,” said Superintendent Fred Brent, “and the new cosmetology program adds another avenue for students to earn certification during high school that prepares them for immediate work following graduation.”
The lab was made possible through generous support from Gordon Logan and his family, whose successful haircutting empire is headquartered in Georgetown, TX.
“Mr. Logan and his team donated their time and expertise to designing a state-of-the-art lab for students as well as financial support for the program,” said Cindi Pike, director of college, career and military readiness for the district.”
Additionally, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce is supporting the program by providing financial support for students who need assistance purchasing required kits, which can range from $400-500 each.
The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting event on Thursday morning, Sept. 19 starting at 8 am at East View High School. A brief presentation with remarks from the superintendent, board president, GISD Education Foundation and Logan family will be followed by student-led tours of the lab.
