April is Alcohol & Drug Awareness Month

The goal is to increase public awareness and understanding, reduce stigma, and encourage local communities to focus on alcoholism and alcohol-related issues. GISD is joining in the movement to help educate and prevent alcohol and drug abuse. During the month of April, students will visually see educational materials and videos in their schools, hear announcements with statistics, and participate in activities that educate them on the dangers associated with drug and alcohol use.

The DEA and the U.S. Department of Education Office of Safe and Healthy Students published a parent resource that addresses and answers the most common questions and concerns related to drug and alcohol use. Click here to access this resource: Growing up Drug Free - A Parent's Guide to Prevention

Additionally, the GISD Guidance and Wellness department will present a parent workshop on alcohol and drug awareness and prevention, Keeping Kids Safe from Drugs and Alcohol.

Guest speakers, Mary Ann Kluga and Officer Delta Jolly, will be sharing information about current drug trends and preventative measures parents can take to help keep their children safe.  Please join us for this event!
