July 7 Update to Families: Survey Results on Returning to School
In June, Georgetown ISD launched a survey to obtain input from various stakeholder groups regarding their experience with distance learning during the spring of 2020 and their hopes and concerns as we return to school in August. Surveys were distributed to students in grades 3-12, GISD parents and GISD staff.
A total of 8,199 people participated in the survey, comprising 6,076 parents, 823 students and 1,300 staff members. Survey results are available on the district's website for review:

District staff are reviewing the full survey results and working with campus leaders to create plans for a return to school in August.
Plans are subject to change as local and state leaders respond to the needs of our community. At this time, GISD is planning with these commitments in mind:
- An option for families to choose the learning environment that fits their needs:
- In-person where a student attends classes at their home campus with physical distancing and other safety measures in place
- Full-time GISD virtual instruction from home
- A 1:1 technology environment that provides an option for every student to borrow a device at the beginning of the school year, regardless of whether families choose in-person or virtual instruction.
- Wifi hotspot access, if needed, for families who choose virtual instruction
- Safety protocols for in-person learning that include:
- Providing personal protection equipment for students and staff
- Wearing masks when appropriate distance cannot be maintained
- Limiting the number of campus guests at any one time
The district is planning weekly updates to families and staff. Ensure that you receive them by updating your contact information and preferences in Skyward.
Expect future updates to include:
- A detailed picture of what learning will look like this fall
- How to enroll your child for in-person or online learning
- Attendance and grading policies
- What to expect if your child participates in athletics, fine arts, dual language and other special programs.
- More robust details on safety protocols including
- Screening protocols for entry to district facilities
- Mask requirements. At this time, the Governor’s order requires face coverings for anyone 10 years of age and older with some exceptions.
- Practices for responding to confirmed cases and exit/entry plans
