Internet Hotspots and Devices for Remote Learning
We want to remind families that you only need a hotspot if you don’t otherwise have internet at home, and that each hotspot can serve multiple devices. If you have more than one student in your household, each one does not need an independent hotspot to connect to the internet. We need families who already have internet access or who checked out more than one hotspot to return them to their home campus so they can be checked out to families who do not otherwise have connectivity.
Device Lending
Our technology team is adjusting the device deployment process. Starting today, September 8, you should contact your child’s home campus to arrange for device check out.
As a reminder, if you or your student need support with technology after hours, our service desk is open Monday through Thursday from 5-8 pm. Call 512-943-5005.
Expanded Service Desk Hours
As a reminder, if you or your student need support with technology after hours, our service desk is open Monday through Thursday from 5-8 pm. Call 512-943-5005.
NWEA MAP assessments for elementary and middle school students
Each year GISD students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade participate in the NWEA MAP Growth Assessment to identify specific learning readiness levels and inform teachers of specific learning needs. The assessment is administered three times annually to monitor student learning progress. These assessments will happen over a period of three weeks beginning September 14 at all elementary and middle school campuses.
- This assessment is not a high stakes assessment tied to graduation or promotion, rather it is for identifying learning readiness and learning needs.
- This assessment is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
- The assessment is “adaptive” meaning the questions change in difficulty level based on how the student answers each question.
- This assessment is completed on computers and can be completed remotely or at school - your school will contact you with options and more information.
You can expect to hear more from your campus about this process in the near future. To learn more about NWEA MAP Growth Assessment, what it provides, and why we use it, please check out this family guide or the parent toolkit resource.
From Our Community Partners:
From Williamson County: free COVID-19 testing Sept. 12-15
Williamson County Office of Emergency Management in partnership with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and in coordination with the City of Georgetown will be hosting free COVID-19 testing September 12 through 15.
Testing will be conducted at the Georgetown Community Center located at 445 East Morrow Street. It will begin at 9 a.m. and it will close by 1:00 p.m. or until supplies last.
This is a walk-up site that will not require an appointment prior to being tested. People interested in getting tested will be asked to park and line up for their turn. It is important to note that this is a cheek swab test, so people cannot eat, drink, or use tobacco products 20 minutes prior to the test. Please avoid bringing pets, unless it is a service animal. Residents should bring a cell phone for on-site registration. Also, please be aware that due to demand there may be a wait time. Bring items as a form of shade to cover from the sun such as a hat or umbrella.
COVID-19 testing at this site is available for all Texans, whether they are Williamson County residents or not. For more information on this and future testing sites, please visit www.wilco.org.

Our community is growing and some of our new families may have been missed by the Census flyers that were mailed in the spring. If you didn’t receive an official Census invitation, it’s not too late to take the 2020 Census! Your participation helps inform how important federal money is spent in our community for things like school lunch programs, student loans, health clinics, and more. To complete the Census online, visit my2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020. You count! The Census Bureau is hiring for temporary, part-time positions. Learn more at https://2020census.gov/en/jobs.
