Virtual Fair Allows Students to Explore Future Ready Opportunities
Georgetown ISD will host a virtual Future Readiness Week event Sept. 28 through Oct. 3 to encourage students and parents to explore college opportunities, career pathways and military options following high school.
Live and recorded sessions with college, career and military representatives will be held daily Monday through Friday, with session times ranging from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A schedule for all events can be found at georgetownchamber.org/future-readiness.
Admissions counselors from a number of colleges in the state of Texas and across the country will be available during sessions throughout the day Monday through Saturday, and students need only to register for a free student account with the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO) to sign up for a time slot. An instructional video for how to set up an account with TACRAO can be found at georgetownchamber.org/future-readiness.
When navigating the Career section of the Future Readiness Week website, students can explore multiple career paths from Manufacturing to Agriculture to Health Science. Additionally, some businesses have created 3D mapped tours of their facilities to help students gain an inside look while learning about a variety of career options; others have created videos highlighting the career opportunities that can be found under their employment or the services they provide to customers.
Service members from branches of the military will be meeting with students at noon Monday through Friday to share career possibilities and debt-free pathways to a college education. Students will also be able to explore all five branches of service via the Future Readiness Week website.
This virtual event is being held in partnership with the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Alliance, the City of Georgetown and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, who are committed to supporting workforce development and community engagement.
All GISD middle and high school students and their parents are encouraged to participate in this week-long event.
For those who are seeking additional guidance regarding how to plan career pathways while in high school, the GISD course guide now features pathway cards that detail career pathways, the courses that should be taken all four years of high school to achieve success in that pathway student organizations student should consider joining that relate to that career pathway and any industry-based certifications offered to students who successfully complete the courses in the pathway and pass the corresponding certification exam. The course guide can be found on the GISD website at https://bit.ly/36864QV.
The virtual fair website through the Georgetown Chamber will be active starting Monday, Sept. 28 for live and on-demand sessions.
