New Principal Named for Georgetown High School
The Georgetown ISD Board of Trustees named Wes Vanicek as the new principal for Georgetown High School at its regular meeting on Monday, June 20.
Presently, Vanicek is an assistant principal at Coppell High School in Coppell Independent School District that serves more than 3,100 students and 230 staff members. Prior to his current position, he served at New Tech High in Coppell ISD as an assistant director where he designed and implemented professional learning experiences for campus educators, and also served as a Biotech educator where he developed, designed and implemented cross-curricular instruction. Additionally, he served on the strategic planning committee to help develop the Coppell ISD Strategic Plan/Long Term Vision.
“Wes brings a wealth of knowledge regarding the design of engaging learning experiences that fosters critical thinking and collaboration using real-world scenarios so that students aren’t merely memorizing information, but actually applying what they learn,” said Superintendent Dr. Fred Brent. “His background in developing innovative instructional strategies with a focus on developing positive and appropriate relationships with students is perfectly aligned with the work that’s already underway at GHS. It was critical to select the right person to lead GHS and we’re proud to welcome Wes to the Georgetown ISD family,” said Dr. Brent.
Vanicek received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. He has been a mentor teacher in the Teach North Texas Program at the University of North Texas and at the UTeach Program at the University of Texas at Dallas.
The district will arrange for a meet-and-greet for parents, staff, and community members in the very near future.
The Board of Trustees also approved Terri Conrad to fill the position of Director of CTE/College and Career Readiness in the Department of Academics.
Conrad currently serves as the associate principal at Georgetown High School and has been instrumental in leading and facilitating design work and the development of the Advanced Placement program. She joined Georgetown ISD in 2008 as an AP Physics teacher at GHS before serving as an assistant principal and the associate principal.
Conrad received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience, and her master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas. She is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in School Improvement from Texas State University.
“Terri’s passion and focus has been on the design process and curriculum development. With her deep understanding of designing engaging, meaningful, and relevant coursework for our students, Terri is the perfect fit to help implement our new curriculum management plan and develop a clear vision for our Career and Technical Education programming,” said Dr. Brent.
In her new role, Conrad will facilitate a district-wide planning process for college and career pathways and certification offerings; lead academic programming for CTE and dual credit courses; and will support the efforts of the curriculum department with advanced academics and Pre-AP and AP course development.
