Academic Help Desk Available for Remote Learners
GISD is proud to offer additional support for remote learners who may need daytime, just-in-time academic assistance. An Academic Help Desk is now available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Students and parents may access this resource for help troubleshooting content-specific assignments, guidance navigating homework and troubleshooting in Google Classroom. The Academic Help Desk is available via Google Meet. Visit “Homework Help” at www.georgetownisd.org/students to access. Remember, students will need to be signed in to their georgetownisd.org accounts to access the links. Questions will be answered in the order they are received, and there may be other students in the chat at the same time.
It’s Not Too Late to Apply: Free and Reduced-Price Meals For Qualified Families
Your family may be able to receive free and reduced-price meals for your student(s), and we encourage you to review your eligibility status today. Even if you did not qualify in the past, the eligibility guidelines have been updated to account for job loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can learn more about the criteria for free and reduced lunch and complete the application on our website.
Those individuals filling out the application will need to provide the following information:
- Names of all household members
- Amount, frequency and source of current income for each household member
- Last 4 digits of the Social Security number of the adult household member who signs the application or, if the adult does not have a social security number, check the box for “No Social Security number”
- Signature of an adult household member attesting that the information provided is correct Categorical or Program Eligibility
Paper copies of the application may also be obtained at each campus or administration building throughout the district. You may also contact Jesse Marrujo, federal programs specialist, at 512-943-5000 x 7176 or marrujoj@georgetownisd.org if you have additional questions.
Unexpected Circumstances
If a household member becomes unemployed or if the household size increases, the household
should contact the school. Such changes may make the children of the household eligible for benefits
if the household’s income falls at or below the income eligibility guidelines.

NASA’s High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) Applications Now Open
NASA’s High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) applications are now open! HAS is an authentic learning experience for Texas high school juniors to engage with NASA’s mission to become the next generation of explorers. Students learn about different STEM related fields of study they might want to pursue in college. Following a series of online lessons, highest achieving students attend an all-expenses-paid, week-long visit to the NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston during the summer. Selected participants plan a team based Artemis themed mission to Moon and Mars with the guidance of NASA scientists and engineers. Both the online and onsite portions are free to participants.
Applications are available for students through Oct. 21. Click here for more information and to apply.
