GISD's FREE Virtual College Application Boot Camp
The Georgetown ISD College, Career, and Military Readiness Team is excited to announce two virtual College Application Boot Camps. Please join us for an opportunity to ask college admissions representatives from the central Texas area about the college admissions process and any changes that have taken place with COVID this year. This virtual Q & A session will take place on September 1 and September 3 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.
Internet Hotspots and Devices for Remote Learning
We want to remind families that you only need a hotspot if you don’t otherwise have internet at home, and that each hotspot can serve multiple devices. If you have more than one student in your household, each one does not need an independent hotspot to connect to the internet. We need families who already have internet access or who checked out more than one hotspot to return them to their home campus so they can be checked out to families who do not otherwise have connectivity.
Families who still need a device for learning can check one out at Wagner or Benold middle schools. Sign up according to your feeder pattern:
EVHS: Carver, Williams, Mitchell, Purl, Wolf Ranch, Tippit at Wagner: signup.com/go/GYckYFg
GHS: Cooper, McCoy, Forbes, Ford, Frost, Village at Benold: signup.com/go/JUepFTj
Meals for Remote Learners
Now through Sept. 9, GISD Nutrition Services will be distributing breakfast and lunch at all campuses between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
For the safety of families and staff, meals will be distributed in a drive-through service. Parents are invited to pick up meals for any student who lives in their household. In accordance with the Texas Department of Agriculture, GISD must comply with normal school nutrition program guidelines which require every meal to be attributed to a GISD student. This means that meals may not be picked up for neighbors or other students not connected to your household. As such, we ask that parents provide a form of identification showing an affiliation to their student(s). Parents will also be asked to provide the names and campuses for all students in the household. If available, student IDs are helpful but not required. Please note that standard meal prices apply. For more information on meal prices, making online meal payments and other GISD Nutrition Services, visit our website.

From the Texas Science Education Foundation: Safer Teenage Drivers - a Study for Teens and Parents
The Texas Science Education Foundation, collaborating with Johns Hopkins University, is looking for 100 GISD learner-permit-stage students to conduct an initial monitoring study of teenagers using smartphone-based software. The purpose of this study is to make teenagers safer drivers by developing tools to use as they learn how to drive. Teenagers with a learner’s permit and their parents are eligible to enroll. Parents and teens can earn a combined $150 in gift cards for participating in this study! Click on this link to learn more and see if you are eligible: https://is.gd/hopkinslogbook or contact Mike Douglas mdouglas@texasscienceeducation.org to learn more. This study is funded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
From the Georgetown Complete Count Committee: 2020 Census
Our community is growing and some of our new families may have been missed by the Census flyers that were mailed in the spring. If you didn’t receive an official Census invitation, it’s not too late to take the 2020 Census! Your participation helps inform how important federal money is spent in our community for things like school lunch programs, student loans, health clinics, and more. To complete the Census online, visit my2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020. You count!
The Census Bureau is hiring for temporary, part-time positions. Learn more at https://2020census.gov/en/jobs.
