New Student Holidays/Teacher Workdays Added to 2020-21 Academic Calendar
In an effort to provide teachers with additional time to design engaging work and offer a work-free break for students, the 2020-21 academic calendar has been adjusted to include five student holidays/teacher workdays throughout the remainder of the year. The following dates are strategically placed at a consistent frequency to provide needed preparation, design and planning time for the multiple modalities of learning that we are experiencing during the pandemic:
- November 2
- November 30
- February 1
- February 17
- April 19
Our partners at the YMCA are offering programming for families of students in grades K-5 on those dates. If your child is currently enrolled in the YMCA after-school program, this service is being offered for free at Mitchell and Frost elementary schools. If your child is not enrolled in the YMCA after-school program, you can call 512-612-5563 to inquire and enroll. Parents can drop off their students at their home campus during their normal drop off time and GISD will provide transportation to the YMCA program site(s).
You can view and download a copy of the new calendar in English or Spanish on our website at www.georgetownisd.org/calendar.

New Features Added to COVID-19 Dashboard
In mid-September, the district released a COVID-19 Tracking Dashboard on our website to inform families, staff and community members of reported positive cases within the district. We received a lot of feedback and are excited to launch a new version today that includes a comprehensive and cumulative chart of cases by campus since we began tracking in August. Users can now sort the dashboard to view weekly cases by campus. Cumulative totals by campus are also displayed in a chart form.
From our Community Partners:
From the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation: Join Us for our School House Rock Lip Sync Battle Live Stream Event Sunday, Oct. 25
During a “normal year”, the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation would be hosting the 50 Fellas cook-off to raise money to support innovative learning in our schools. This year, instead, they’ll host a virtual School House Rock event on Sunday, October 25 where viewers can watch their favorite campus personnel in a lip-sync battle. The “winners” get bragging rights but the real winners are the students and teachers who benefit from the proceeds. Twice annually, teachers across GISD have an opportunity to apply for grants to fund creative and innovative programming in the classroom. Mark your calendars for October 25 at 6:30 p.m. to tune in, vote for your favorite campus team and make a financial contribution to the Education Foundation. Follow event details on the GISD Education Foundation Facebook page, including a preview of auction items, and tune in Sunday on YouTube.
From Girlstart and The Bullock Museum: Join us Oct. 30 for a Virtual Spooktacular!
Mark your calendars! The Bullock Museum and Girlstart have everything you need to enjoy an annual FREE family-friendly Spooktacular from home on Oct. 30!

From Unity Church of the Hills: Sign the Virtual, Texas-Sized Thank You Note for Central Texas Teachers
As you know, the current and ongoing health crisis has disrupted many lives. Our teachers have stepped up, and we want to show our appreciation and gratitude to them by creating a Texas-sized thank you - a gigantic virtual thank you note that will capture the thanks of potentially thousands of people!
We hope you will participate by clicking this link and writing a few lines of thanks and appreciation to the teachers in your community. You may upload GIFs, MP4, and/or MP3 content. We prefer universal notes, “Dear Teacher,” but you may also write to your specific teacher, “Dear Ms. Taylor.” Remember, we’re hoping to collect thousands of notes and we want each teacher to feel honored and appreciated.
We will be collecting the virtual notes until Oct. 31. The completed card will be forward to your School District Administrator and they will distribute it to your PreK-12 teaching staff. Thank you for your support.
