GISD Financial Aid Workshop for Seniors and Parents
(Translation will be available at this workshop. Traduccion sera disponible en este taller.)
GISD seniors and their parents are invited to attend our FREE Financial Aid Workshop on October 19th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at East View High School in Room 501. Financial aid specialists from ACC and Southwestern University will be available to guide parents and students through the requirements of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is required for any student applying for grants (not required to be paid back), loans, or scholarships for colleges or technical schools. The FAFSA application opened on October 1st, so don't miss your chance for guidance and assistance. The workshop is structured as come and go (you need not stay the entire duration), and parents should bring all required documents if you would like assistance in filling out the application. For more information about what is needed, visit the Federal Student Aid website.
EVHS Theater to present Peter and the Starcatcher
East View HS Theater program will present Peter and the Starcatcher on October 24-26 at the EV Theater, nightly at 7 pm. The play provides a backstory for the characters of Peter Pan, Mrs Darling, Tinker Bell and Hook, and serves as a prequel to J. M. Barrie's Peter and Wendy. Purchase tickets online in advance at www.evhstheater.com or at the door.
$5 Students and Teachers
Volunteers and Mentors
GISD is always in need of volunteers and mentors! The volunteer program is a great way to get involved with a variety of programs within GISD. The mentor program provides an opportunity for community members to meet one-on-one with a student once a week during the lunch hour. In order to volunteer in our schools, it is required that all volunteers complete a Georgetown ISD background check. When you are approved or if more information is needed, you will receive an email notifying you of your status. If you are interested in becoming a new volunteer or mentor, please fill out an application today.
From The GISD Education Foundation
Tickets are still available to 50 Fellas Foodfest, the premiere fundraiser of the GISD Education Foundation. This year's event will be held on October 26 at Reunion Ranch.
The event will showcase cook teams from our community serving their best dishes. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite item in appetizer, entrée, dessert, and fan favorite categories. Live music, silent auction items, and great food will highlight the event.
Purchase tickets at www.fiftyfellas.com.
From The Caring Place: Coat Drive
The Caring Place would like to invite all members of its service area to participate in the Jackets 4 Georgetown program. Jacket, gloves, and hat donations can be made in the donations drive through at The Caring Place located at 2000 Railroad Avenue, Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m from September 23 - October 12. The organization can also provide collection barrels for coat drives at schools, businesses, community organizations or churches by calling 512-943-0700.
