Graduation Information
Recent guidelines from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) now allow for outdoor graduation ceremonies. With this news, our high school principals revised plans and we’re excited to be hosting in-person graduation ceremonies for our seniors at Birkelbach Field on the following dates:
Friday, May 29
Richarte High School
8 p.m.
Saturday, May 30
East View High School
8 p.m.
Sunday, May 31
Georgetown High School
8 p.m.
Because of social distancing, we are limiting the number of guests attending the event, and safety measures will be in place that include verbal wellness screenings and temperature checks. For those who are unable to join us that day, we’ll be live streaming the event and will share that URL with you closer to graduation.
We are excited to be able to come together and honor seniors in this way. Yet, we recognize that permission to hold an in-person ceremony is subject to change as underlying public health conditions that impact local and state orders develop.
High school principals are updating senior families with specific details on graduation events and the parade. Community updates for graduation and related events also posted at www.georgetownisd.org/2020graduation.
Sora - Audiobooks and eBooks for Middle School & High School Students
We are excited to introduce Georgetown ISD’s newest reading platform, Sora! Sora is an app or website where you can access thousands of popular audio and ebooks. These items were purchased by the GISD librarians based on the most popular checkouts at each secondary school. Using Sora, you can earn badges, bookmark your spots, make notes, and define words as you read.
Middle school and high school students can get to Sora through ClassLink or by downloading the Sora app (on Apple or Android devices) and signing in with their GISD login information. Important note: When prompted, search for Georgetown ISD, not your school. Students can check out ebooks and audiobooks for two weeks, and put holds on two more items.
Inside the Sora app, you can sync your public library account to access even more free books! Need to create a Georgetown Public Library account? Call (512) 930-3551 or stop by their building!
Dual Language Information
Previously scheduled Dual Language Parent Info Sessions have been changed to a virtual format in response to school closures due to COVID-19. Parents of English speaking students from any campus who are interested in applying for the Kindergarten Dual Language Programs at Carver, Cooper, Mitchell, Purl, or Village are encouraged to watch the informational video on the Dual Language webpage, which will give you an overview of the program and next steps for the application process. Applications are due May 22. District personnel will contact you on or before June 5 to inform you of acceptance into the program or your place on a waitlist along with next steps. Thank you for your interest in the Dual Language program!
Memorial Day & Last Day of School
Reminder that Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day. Join us in remembering those who have fought for our freedom. Distance learning will resume on Tuesday, May 26. Thursday, May 28 will be the last day of the 2019-2020 school year.
Georgetown ISD facilities to remain closed through the end of the school year - Remote learning continues
Following Governor Abbott’s declaration on April 17 to close schools for the remainder of the year, Georgetown ISD will follow the guidelines and not re-open schools this semester.
During this time, Georgetown ISD will continue to deliver learning through remote online instruction while keeping district facilities closed. The last day of remote learning is May 28, 2020. Meal distribution will continue to take place through May 28.
For more information, to view past community updates, or FAQs related to closure, please visit www.georgetownisd.org/coronavirus.
If you’re not receiving email communications from the District, you may sign up to receive them at any time.
