Your feedback on the academic calendar is important and we are asking for your input by completing this brief survey.
When creating an upcoming academic calendar, it's important to consider the learning needs of our students. The next phase is finding a balance between the professional learning needs of our staff and the needs of the community. We recognize that it can be difficult to arrange childcare when students are out of school; however, we also recognize how important staff learning is to the success of our students.
As you complete the survey, please consider the minor changes we made for the 2019-2020 school calendar:
Fall Break was realigned to coincide with Columbus Day.
We offered two Professional Learning Days in February instead of one.
The district is also considering that we adopt a two-year calendar.
This would help GISD families and community members make plans for travel, etc. well into the future. There is a question on the survey requesting feedback on pursuing this endeavor.
After hearing from staff, parents and community members, we will develop a few sample calendars that are reflective of the feedback received and share them in December. A calendar for the 2020-2021 school year will be presented to the board for approval in February 2020. Thank you for sharing feedback with us.
