Students Compete in Academic UIL Events
In a year where many traditional student activities have been reimagined, Georgetown ISD is committed to bringing academic enrichment programming to our students; Academic University Interscholastic League (UIL) is one way to provide these opportunities.
This year, nearly 350 elementary and middle school GISD students competed in Academic UIL events during the weeks of Feb. 22 and March 1. Elementary students competed in seven events including art, chess puzzles, music memory, number sense, ready writing, oral reading and spelling. At the middle school level, students competed in 10 events, including art, chess puzzles, impromptu speaking, mathematics, music memory, number sense, ready writing, oral reading, science and spelling. The top three winners in each grade level event can be found HERE.
High school students participated in the 25-5A Academic UIL district meet for a chance to qualify for the regional level of competition. Forty-four East View High School and Georgetown High School students competed, and 18 students qualified to advance to the regional competition. Learn more HERE.
GISD held contests at the campuses this year instead of one district-wide meet to follow updated UIL guidance.
“A number of districts are not offering extracurricular activities this year, but we made it work,” Hope Scallan, advanced academics coordinator, said. “We just changed the format of our usual competition and had to be flexible and creative!”
Official High School UIL results have been posted that show total team points.
The regional meet for high school students will be held April 16-17 at Cedar Park High School.
