Uniendo Familias Meeting Tonight
The first Uniendo Familias meeting of the school year will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting in Spanish to discuss how to navigate the district website, programs and community resources. We hope any and all can log in and join us. The link to the meeting is in this flyer.
Homework Help Launched for Remote Learners
In addition to teacher-led and campus-based tutorials, GISD is proud to offer additional support for remote learners who may need daytime, just-in-time academic assistance. Homework Help is now available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Students may access this resource for help troubleshooting content-specific assignments, guidance navigating homework and troubleshooting in Google Classroom. Homework Help is available via Google Meet links at www.georgetownisd.org/students. Remember, students will need to be signed in to their georgetownisd.org accounts to access the links. Questions will be answered in the order they are received, and there may be other students in the chat at the same time.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals For Qualified Families
Free and reduced-price meals may be available for your student(s).
Eligibility guidelines apply. If your family experienced job loss due to COVID, you could qualify even if you did not in the past.
You can learn more about the criteria for free and reduced lunch and complete the application on our website.
Those individuals filling out the application will need to provide the following information:
- Names of all household members
- Amount, frequency and source of current income for each household member
- Last 4 digits of the Social Security number of the adult household member who signs the application or, if the adult does not have a social security number, check the box for “No Social Security number”
- Signature of an adult household member attesting that the information provided is correct Categorical or Program Eligibility
Paper copies of the application may also be obtained at each campus or administration building throughout the district. You may also contact Jesse Marrujo, federal programs specialist, at 512-943-5000 x 7176 or marrujoj@georgetownisd.org if you have additional questions.
Unexpected Circumstances
If a household member becomes unemployed or if the household size increases, the household should contact the school. Such changes may make the children of the household eligible for benefits if the household’s income falls at or below the income eligibility guidelines.
College, Career, and Military Readiness Presents: Future Readiness Week
The GISD Future Readiness Week kicks off on Monday, Sept. 28 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 3, giving students and families virtual access to college, career and military options. Students in grades 6- 12 can visit with college representatives, more than 30 local businesses and a representative from every branch of the military through scheduled and recorded online sessions during the week. Our partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Georgetown and the Rural Capital Area Workforce Solutions groups has made this possible for our students. Manufacturing Day, Oct. 2, will be a part of this effort, and students will have access to incredible online 3-D tours of local manufacturing facilities and will be able to visit with those company leaders during scheduled virtual sessions that will take place in their CTE classes.
This video provides an overview of the week’s events and step-by-step instructions on how to participate.
COVID-19 Dashboard Tracks Positive Cases
On Sept. 16, the district launched a COVID-19 Dashboard that reflects newly reported and lab confirmed Covid-19 cases for students and staff in Georgetown ISD. You can access the dashboard from any district or campus home page via the COVID-19 Information button and directly at www.georgetownisd.org/COVID19. Information is updated regularly and aligns with data that is also reported to the state and included in more comprehensive dashboards. GISD is providing this dashboard to inform our community and help families make informed decisions related to their students.
Please note that parents are notified of any lab confirmed cases at their child’s campus.
You can find additional information about the district’s safety plan including isolation and screening protocols at www.georgetownisd.org/backtoschoolplan and on your child’s campus home page under “COVID-19 Response.”
