Meeting Notes
Committee members started the evening in one of three breakout rooms. Presentations were designed to address questions previously shared by the committee. Activities kicked off around 6 pm. Discussions and presentations focused on:
- Growth and capacity, namely the location and future need of new elementary schools, redesigning Benold and how and where the district considers land for future growth.
- The CTE center and collaborative programs including Richarte HS, Bridges (18-22 for special needs) and Eagle Wings early learning center. A comprehensive facility allows for program expansion to serve a greater number of students in a collaborative environment that also encourages community engagement through increased “internship” opportunities and practical experiences.
- Richarte HS students would have greater access to CTE programming; program capacity would increase to approximately 350. (Current enrollment is just under 100.)
- Bridges students would have greater access to collaborate with programs like culinary arts as well as have a public space for a boutique and coffee bar
- Students in the child development program at high school could partner with the early learning center (ELC) for practical experience; capacity for the ELC would increase to approximately 139.
- Advanced CTE programs would be housed at this location allowing for increased capacity in programs.
- Miscellaneous projects including technology, renovations to the performing arts center and the swim facility. Research continues on the swim facility and a more in-depth discussion is planned around this for Meeting #5.
The award-winning culinary arts program at East View HS provided dinner.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 13 at Georgetown High School.
