In Case You Missed It: Great News in GISD Schools!
In this week’s eNews:
January is School Board Recognition Month
School Board Recognition Month in January is the perfect time to thank your elected volunteer trustees for courageously and selflessly navigating the choppy waters of 2020 with us to care for our students, our staff and our community in new and creative ways. Please join us this month in showing appreciation for Georgetown ISD’s school board members, who volunteer their time, energy and talents to help guide the vision of GISD.
We invite you to share a message of thanks on social media any time this month with the hashtags #SchoolBoardMonth and #GISDBoard.
Chromebook Distribution
GISD began the final portion of middle school Chromebook distribution this week. Now that all Chromebook orders have been received and prepared for students, we will distribute devices to 6th and 7th-grade students over the next two weeks.
The schedule is as follows:
Benold Middle School - Wednesday, January 20
Tippit Middle School - Friday, January 22
Forbes Middle School - Wednesday, January 27
Wagner Middle School - Friday, January 29
Campuses are communicating this information directly with parents and students of both in-person and remote learners regarding their distribution plans on these dates. To receive their new device, 6th and 7th-grade students will need to bring their current GISD Chromebook and charger to class, while remote learners will be able to exchange their devices through a drive-up service near the main entrance of the campus from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on their campuses' scheduled date.
Elementary distributions will begin soon.

District seeks volunteers for Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
The Citizens Advisory Committee will learn about the district's growth, facilities and finances, and present actionable feedback to the Superintendent and School Board which could include a recommendation to call a bond election. If you are interested in learning more about this process and how to volunteer, please visit www.georgetownisd.org/CAC for information, meeting dates and how to apply.
The deadline to submit a nomination to be considered to serve on the committee is Thursday, Feb. 4.
Vote for the Eagles
We're proud to see Georgetown High School on this list that highlights what really makes Texas football special: the people and community around it. You can show your support for the Eagles by learning more and voting in Dave Campbell's Texas Football Community Connector Award campaign here: http://texasfootball.com/suddenlink. If Georgetown wins, a $2,500 donation will be made to the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation, benefitting all students in GISD. Even better, if Georgetown wins, the owners at Shanghai Express have pledged to match this donation dollar for dollar!! Voting ends January 22!
2021 Destination Life Transition Fair

2020-21 G/T Referral and Assessment Parent Information
The GISD referral window for gifted and talented is fast approaching. We have made a few changes this year to the referral timeline and processes. Please visit our GISD Gifted/Talented web page to learn more about the district’s G/T services, our referral and assessment process, as well as characteristics of gifted learners as you consider whether to refer your child for testing.
San Gabriel Writing Project Competition for Middle School
In collaboration with The San Gabriel Writers League (an organization of professional, published writers right here in our own community), middle school students have the unique opportunity to share a piece of their writing for a potential prize.
The deadline for submissions is March 8, 2021.
Students may submit their piece of fiction to their GISD middle school Reading Language Arts teacher.
Or, submissions can be made directly to the secondary ELAR curriculum coordinator at kearneyj@georgetownisd.org.
More information:
All submissions must include the 2021 Registration Form
Students will need to access the 2021 Writing Contest Poster for more details.
Applicants should examine the Judging Criteria document
This is a great opportunity for learners to look back at this year's portfolio of writing to share a piece of fiction. Likewise, students may submit a new piece of writing that has not yet been composed
