Epigenetics

“According to reports, approximately 62 percent of all children come to school every day experiencing some type of trauma. As upsetting as this sounds, and is, scientists now know that trauma is passed down. For some of us, trauma is in our DNA. The scientific phenomenon is known as ‘epigenetic inheritance.’ Our genes constantly adapt to their environment through chemical tags, which switch genes off and on. Thus research shows that people who live through high levels of toxic stress alter the genes of their children and, therefore, the lives they will lead.”
