Georgetown ISD Launches Leadership Development Program for Employees

Hammerlun leadership academy

NOTE: Applications are due Friday, April 9. Employees may apply at this link.

Georgetown ISD and the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation are excited to announce the launch of the Hammerlun Leadership Academy (HLA) today. The academy is a leadership accelerator, open to GISD employees who want to grow and develop personal leadership skills through study and reflection on the characteristics and habits of effective leaders.

The inaugural cohort will meet during a 10-month period and will include opportunities to connect with leaders outside of the district, participate in activities that provoke reflection on leadership behaviors, and take part in leadership goal-setting and coaching.

The Academy is named for Jerry Hammerlun, a family man, public servant, businessman and friend to Georgetown ISD.  Jerry believed that by investing in people, it would allow them to grow, mature, learn and to have greater impact. Following his unexpected death in 2018, the architecture firm where he was a partner, Huckabee, Inc., made a donation to the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation, with the vision of developing a leadership program that embodied Jerry’s ideal for good leaders and honored the mission, vision, beliefs and culture of Georgetown ISD.  After thoughtful planning and collaboration, the Hammerlun Leadership Academy was born in 2021. The first cohort will kick off in June.

“In Georgetown ISD we believe that the development of leaders is vital to the success of the district. In fact, we believe that leadership development at all levels of our organization drives our performance as a district and viability as a thriving community,” said Dr. Fred Brent, Georgetown ISD Superintendent.  “Hammerlun Leadership Academy is designed to foster personal leadership development and growth in our staff across our district, regardless of position or title or goals or experiences.”

All district employees with two years of experience in GISD are eligible for participation. The application window for the first cohort of the Hammerlun Leadership Academy is now open and will close on April 9. Learn more about the program online at
