Back to School Plans

Georgetown ISD’s Back to School Plan is now available on our website. It provides a deeper look at what school will look like this school year including safety protocols, more details about on-campus instruction and remote learning, extracurricular activities and student activities, resources for mental health and more. This plan is intended to be updated as needed and revision dates will be noted and shared as they are available. The plan is available as translatable text on our website as well as in a downloadable PDF format.

Campus-level plans will be available on Monday, August 3 on each campus website.

Three virtual information sessions were held for families to learn about the plan and ask questions. Those are available on our YouTube channel for on-demand viewing. You can access links to each session on our website.

Enroll at GISD

Enrollment is now open for families. New to GISD families can start their enrollment process on our website at:

Existing families who are already registered in Skyward should log in and enroll each child for either on-campus or remote learning by August 6.

2020-2021 School Supply Lists

Updated school supply lists are now available. Click here to view a complete list of supply lists for elementary and middle schools.

Summer Meal Program

The Summer Meal Program will be available through August 7 at Purl and Frost elementary schools. The program is open to students through age 18.

Two meals will be distributed daily via drive-through service: a hot lunch and a breakfast intended for the following day. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. throughout the summer on regular school business days. Weekly menus are posted on our social media platforms.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications

Free and reduced-price meals are available to Georgetown ISD students who qualify under the required income eligibility guidelines.

Applications are available now on our website. Starting on August 20, 2020, GISD will begin distributing letters to the households of the students in the district about eligibility benefits and any actions households need to take to apply for these benefits. Each school and administration building also has a copy of the Free and Reduced-Priced Meals Policy and applications.

P-EBT Deadline Extended

The deadline to apply for P-EBT food benefits has been extended to July 31. Did your child receive free or reduced-price school meals through the National School Lunch Program during the 2019-20 school year? If so, your family may be eligible for this one-time food benefit. Visit to learn more about P-EBT. For questions regarding eligibility, or if you need help applying, contact the P-EBT Call Center at 833-613-6220.

20-21 DPC website nominations

The District Performance Council serves a very important role at GISD. One of the primary functions of this committee is to work with the district to provide guidance on the District Improvement Plan and provide input on the district calendar prior to submission to the Board of Trustees.

GISD is accepting nominations now through August 17 for the following vacancies:

  • 3 GISD Parents
  • 3 Business Members
  • 2 Community Members

Once members are identified, they will receive an email confirming placement on the committee.

More details on eligibility requirements are included in the registration form.

The first DPC meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14 from 5 to - 6:30 p.m. in Building 2 of the Hammerlun Center for Leadership & Learning (HCLL), 507 E. University Avenue. A virtual option will also be available.

From the Georgetown Area Junior Forum: Community School Supply Student Distribution event

The Georgetown Area Junior Forum (GAJF) will host a free school supply event on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club parking lot. This is a drive-thru operation where families will stay in vehicles while masked GAJF volunteers distribute pre-packaged backpacks with basic school supplies. This event is open to all GISD families. From the Chamber: Junior Leadership Georgetown 2020 – 2021 Applications are Now Being Accepted

Junior Leadership Georgetown is a program created to develop the next generation of Georgetown community leaders. This eight-month program for high school juniors and seniors is designed to strengthen participants’ leadership skills, community awareness, and involvement. Junior Leadership Georgetown will provide participants with quality, relevant leadership training along with knowledge of the community, needs, and opportunities. It allows participants to form effective relationships with current, past, and future leaders in the community.

From the City: Get help paying your utility bills

Has your employment or income been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? The City of Georgetown has funding available to help you pay your utility bills.

Anyone who has lost their income since the start of this year may qualify.

The COVID-19 Customer Assistance Program offers up to $1,500 to residential utility customers who have past due balances in 2020 and can show their income or employment has been affected by the pandemic or any resulting restrictions, such as the stay home orders that were in effect. Financial assistance will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last.

Funding for this program comes from unanticipated income and special revenues in both our water and electric utilities.

From the City: Share your priorities for mobility around Georgetown

The City of Georgetown is putting together a mobility bond package for a vote by its residents in May 2021. The primary focus areas of this mobility bond are:

  • Increasing capacity of Georgetown’s roadway network and bridges with high traffic volume.
  • Improving intersections, building sidewalks, and enhancing safety throughout Georgetown to create new connections within and among neighborhoods.
  • Coordinating with other planned transportation work, including projects identified in our Pedestrian and Bike master plans, to accelerate delivery to Georgetown residents

Residents will drive the development of this bond, from a citizen advisory committee that will provide final recommendations to multiple opportunities for public feedback before the election is called.

From the Texas Science Education Foundation: Safer Teenage Drivers - a Study for Teens and Parents

The Texas Science Education Foundation, collaborating with Johns Hopkins University, is looking for 100 GISD learner permit stage students to conduct an initial monitoring study of teenagers using smartphone-based software. The purpose of this study is to make teenagers safer drivers by developing tools to use as they learn how to drive. Teenagers with a learner’s permit and their parents are eligible to enroll. Parents and teens can earn a combined $150 in gift cards for participating in this study! Click on this link to learn more and see if you are eligible: or contact Mike Douglas to learn more. Our community is growing and some of our new families may have been missed by the Census flyers that were mailed in the spring. If you didn’t receive an official Census invitation, it’s not too late to take the 2020 Census! Your participation helps inform how important federal money is spent in our community for things like school lunch programs, student loans, health clinics, and more.
