Academic Help Desk Available for Remote Learners
GISD is proud to offer additional support for remote learners who may need daytime, just-in-time academic assistance. An Academic Help Desk is now available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Students and parents may access this resource for help troubleshooting content-specific assignments, guidance navigating homework and troubleshooting in Google Classroom. The Academic Help Desk is available via Google Meet. Visit “Homework Help” at www.georgetownisd.org/students to access. Remember, students will need to be signed in to their georgetownisd.org accounts to access the links. Questions will be answered in the order they are received, and there may be other students in the chat at the same time. An additional free tutoring service from Texas A&M has been added to the Homework Help Center and offers expanded service hours.

NASA’s High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) Applications Now Open
NASA’s High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) applications are now open! HAS is an authentic learning experience for Texas high school juniors to engage with NASA’s mission to become the next generation of explorers. Students learn about different STEM related fields of study they might want to pursue in college. Following a series of online lessons, highest achieving students attend an all-expenses-paid, week-long visit to the NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston during the summer. Selected participants plan a team based Artemis themed mission to Moon and Mars with the guidance of NASA scientists and engineers. Both the online and onsite portions are free to participants.
Applications are available for students through Oct. 21. Click here for more information and to apply.
From our Community Partners:
From Girlstart and The Bullock Museum: Join us Oct. 30 for a Virtual Spooktacular!
Mark your calendars! The Bullock Museum and Girlstart have everything you need to enjoy our annual FREE family-friendly Spooktacular from home on Oct. 30!
From boo bubbles to the physics of candy to spooky sounds, gather the simple materials needed for this virtual Halloween celebration. Put on your favorite costume and join us online for hands-on fun activities for the whole family! Learn more here.
From the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation: Join Us for our School House Rock Lip Sync Battle Live Stream Event Sunday, Oct. 25
During a “normal year”, the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation would be hosting the 50 Fellas cook-off to raise money to support innovative learning in our schools. This year, instead, they’ll host a virtual School House Rock event on Sunday, October 25 where viewers can watch their favorite campus personnel in a lip-sync battle. The “winners” get bragging rights but the real winners are the students and teachers who benefit from the proceeds. In fact, right now, teachers and all staff members across GISD have an opportunity to apply for grants to fund creative and innovative programming in the classroom. Mark your calendars for October 25 at 6:30 p.m. to tune in, vote for your favorite campus team and make a financial contribution to the Education Foundation. Updates, including a link to view the event, will be posted on the GISD Ed Foundation Facebook page soon!
From Unity Church of the Hills: Sign the Virtual, Texas-Sized Thank You Note for Central Texas Teachers
As you know, the current and ongoing health crisis has disrupted many lives. Our teachers have stepped up, and we want to show our appreciation and gratitude to them by creating a Texas-sized thank you - a gigantic virtual thank you note that will capture the thanks of potentially thousands of people!
We hope you will participate by clicking this link and writing a few lines of thanks and appreciation to the teachers in your community. You may upload GIFs, MP4, and/or MP3 content. We prefer universal notes, “Dear Teacher,” but you may also write to your specific teacher, “Dear Ms. Taylor.” Remember, we’re hoping to collect thousands of notes and we want each teacher to feel honored and appreciated.
We will be collecting the virtual notes until Oct. 31. The completed card will be forward to your School District Administrator and they will distribute it to your PreK-12 teaching staff. Thank you for your support.
From Amazon Web Services: Girls’ Tech Day Goes Virtual!
