2020-21 G/T Referral and Assessment Parent Information
The GISD referral window for gifted and talented is fast approaching. We have made a few changes this year to the referral timeline and processes. Please visit our GISD Gifted/Talented web page to learn more about the district’s G/T services, our referral and assessment process, as well as characteristics of gifted learners as you consider whether to refer your child for testing.
Updates Made to COVID-19 Process Map
As we continue to learn more about COVID-19 and additional guidance is provided by local and state partners, we have made a significant update to our COVID-19 exposure process map for students.
Previously, students who showed symptoms of COVID-19 were allowed to return to school after receiving one negative COVID-19 test. Now, a student may only return to campus when the campus nurse has confirmed with the family the following:
- Receipt of two negative COVID-19 tests at least 48 hours apart (documentation required), OR
- 10 days have passed from symptom onset, OR
- Alternate doctor diagnosis, AND
- Improvement of symptoms and fever-free for at at least 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication)
The same situations are true for students returning to school from home exposure:
- A student may return to campus when the campus nurse has confirmed with the family that the student has remained home to self-isolate and avoid public spaces for 14 days beyond the family member’s last day of illness (a minimum of 24 days from their family member’s first day of symptoms), OR
- School has received documentation of two negative COVID-19 tests at least 48 hours apart for the individual who was the source of the exposure, OR
- An alternative diagnosis has been provided by a doctor for the individual who was the source of the exposure

YMCA Offering Programming for K-5 Families During Student Holidays/Teacher Workdays
