Board Approves Formation of Citizens Advisory Committee
During last month’s board meeting, Dr. Brent presented information on goals, charges and parameters around the possibility of developing a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) in the new year. Last night, the board approved Dr. Brent’s recommendation to convene a CAC.
The CAC will review and assess facilities and other projects for consideration in a future bond. According to the tentative timeline, CAC meetings would take place beginning in the new year, from February to June. A community survey would then be conducted next summer, and any recommendations developed from those efforts would be presented to the board in July.
The deadline to call for a bond election in 2021 is next August. More information on nominations for the committee will be coming soon.
Updates to District of Innovation Plan, New Principal Evaluation Tool Approved
The board approved adjustments to the district’s District of Innovation Plan, after being presented information about possible adjustments during the November board meeting. Feedback and routine review of the DOI plan led GISD to pursue adding the following:
- an added statute that will allow the district to explore alternative group health benefits, with potential improvements and lower premiums
- an added statute for an updated principal and administrator evaluation tool and process
The board also approved the redesigned principal evaluation tool, which is comprised of three main parts:
- Monitoring of progress toward professional goals
- Feedback on GISD leadership commitments
- Feedback on skills, abilities, work and expectations, specifically related to the role
