GISD Partner Spotlight: Education Connection

National School Counseling Appreciation Week - February 1-5

National School Counseling Week will be celebrated from Feb. 1–5, 2021. During this week, we hope to raise awareness to the unique contributions of school counselors in our schools and community.

National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Our GISD counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents. They partner with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today's world; focusing on positive ways to enhance students' academic, postsecondary and social/emotional development.

Within our organization, GISD counselors continue their work to assist students as they realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves.

Thank you to our incredible School Counselors!

San Gabriel Writing Project Competition for Middle School

In collaboration with The San Gabriel Writers League (an organization of professional, published writers right here in our own community), middle school students have the unique opportunity to share a piece of their writing for a potential prize.

The deadline for submissions is March 8, 2021.

Students may submit their piece of fiction to their GISD middle school Reading Language Arts teacher.

Or, submissions can be made directly to the secondary ELAR curriculum coordinator at kearneyj@georgetownisd.org

More information:

This is a great opportunity for learners to look back at this year's portfolio of writing to share a piece of fiction. Likewise, students may submit a new piece of writing that has not yet been composed.
