GHS Testing Updates

Hello, parents and students of GHS!
I have some important Spring 2021 testing reminders and updates for you, so please take your time to review it all:
1. STAAR Testing
Students need passing scores in their 5 STAAR End-of-Course exams to graduate high school. The Texas Education Agency has not given any leeway to high schools such as applying waivers--there is no option to Opt-Out of STAAR tests for Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology or US History.
Students who are Remote* will need to come to the school on the test dates listed below to avoid missing their opportunity to test. Given the preparation teachers are doing for these tests, students should take the STAAR test in the season of when they are in the class--testing in the summer or winter windows places a student further from course materials, decreasing their chances for success.
All students taking these STAAR tests need to bring their fully-charged, school-issued Chromebook to testing as all STAAR tests are online. The teachers of these 5 courses have been doing practice work using the STAAR online app, so students will know plenty about it ahead of test day.
Students enrolled in these classes are taking these tests as well as students still in need of a passing score on these tests. Students enrolled in these classes will have communication disseminated via their teachers; students re-testing will have communication disseminated via email to email addresses for parent and student listed in Skyward.
April 20: English I STAAR
April 22: English II STAAR
May 19: Algebra I STAAR
May 20: Biology and US History STAAR
Remote students in English I and II courses: please look for the communication from your child's English teachers about whether or not you are coming to school to test and whether or not you need transportation to the school for test days. There are surveys for both English I and English II to indicate these decisions.
*Students who are Remote due to being under Quarantine status are NOT to report to campus and will receive communication about their options.
2. AP Exams
GHS' AP Exam Schedule and Test Formats are identified in the following chart. Online tests may be taken at home or at school. We will have students declare their needs in late April. Online and Paper tests at school are in a proctored environment.
All tests taken at school require a check-in time of 45-60 minutes before the test begins. College Board is releasing the Online Testing app for students to download beginning April 8. AP Course teachers are the best resources for questions about these various tests.
Communication regarding AP Exams will be sent via teachers and via the email addresses listed in Total Registration. Students are responsible for checking their email accounts frequently in these coming months.

3. 11th grade only: School Day SAT on April 13th
11th graders who have a declared status of an In-person learner will be automatically assigned a room and seat for the School Day SAT on April 13th. However, 11th graders who are Remote will need to sign up on this form to let us know that they intend to come to school and take the SAT.
Even if you come to campus to attend an athletic period or a few classes OR recently changed from in-person to Remote, if your status in Skyward is 'Remote' on March 31, you will  need to fill out the form if you want to test.

The final time I will check statuses and assign rooms for in-person learners is March 31, so please keep that in mind if you change your status from In-Person to Remote or vice-versa. The ability to submit answers to the form will end on March 31, 4pm.
TI-84 Graphing Calculators will be provided for the School Day SAT.
Thank you!
