March Board Briefs
Board Briefs are monthly, high-level updates following regularly scheduled meetings of the GISD Board of Trustees.
Look for Board Briefs each month following the regularly scheduled meeting of the board. These updates are designed to help keep you informed on important activities and decisions in the district.
TASB Pay System Review
The district recently engaged the HR Services division of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) to conduct a comprehensive review of GISD’s employee compensation plan. A TASB representative presented their findings to the board, and the information will be used to develop the 2021-2021compensation plan and budget. The board will continue budget workshops through the spring leading up to a budget adoption in June.
COVID-19 Update
Members of the district leadership team provided the board with updates related to the COVID-19 closure and work being done in the areas of communication, teaching and learning, operations, technology, human resources, and business services. Updates included information about distance learning, digital tools, food distribution, counseling services and more.
Additionally, the board unanimously passed a resolution to continue to pay district employees for their regular duty schedules during the duration of the emergency school closure.
The district has developed a landing page at www.georgetownisd.org/coronavirus to host all communication updates and information about the continuous development of resources to meet the needs of students, families, and staff.
As the situation evolves, look for updates from Dr. Brent on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Postponement of May 2 Trustee Election
The board took action to move the previously called May 2, 2020 school board election to the Nov. 3, 2020 ballot. This comes after Texas Governor Greg Abbott authorized the postponement of the May election and Williamson County followed suite, in line with the state’s health emergency and effort to limit gathering.
