Georgetown ISD Names Teachers, Employees of the Year
During a virtual recognition ceremony Thursday evening, the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation named the district’s Teachers and Employees of the Year.
2021 Teachers of the Year
- Elementary Teacher of the Year: Sunny Schlaudt, Cooper Elementary School
- Secondary Teacher of the Year: Kelly Seaman, Wagner Middle School
2020 Employees of the Year
- Auxiliary Employee of the Year: Maria Pantoja, East View High School Custodian
- Paraprofessional Employee of the Year: Susana Escobar, Purl Elementary School Instructional Aide
- Support Employee of the Year: Candice Mills, District Behavior Specialist
GISD campuses and departments submitted nominations of teachers and employees who embody the district’s vision and mission. Nominations were reviewed by a committee and a single winner was secluded in each category. Teacher of the Year nominations were determined using the Texas Teacher of the Year guidelines set by the Texas Association of School Administrators. Since 1969, the Texas Teacher of the Year (TOY) Program has honored excellence in classroom education and provided a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and the communities they serve.
The district Teacher of the Year winners will advance in competition at the regional level.
This is the first year the district’s Employee Recognition Ceremony, which is sponsored by the GISD Education Foundation, was held virtually. A prize patrol made up of members of the GISD Board of Trustees, district leadership team, and Education Foundation visited the homes of the top five winners during the virtual ceremony.
The virtual ceremonies are available to watch on the Georgetown ISD YouTube channel. Part one of the ceremony recognized employees with 20 or more years of service and retirees, and part two recognized finalists and winners of the Teacher and Employee of the Year awards.
